Hossawa Falls (払沢の滝) is a leading beauty spot of Hinohara Village, chosen as one of Japan's 100 finest waterfalls. The walking path is well maintained, and a round-trip stroll of about 30 minutes brings you close to the basin. Even in summer it is cool around the falls, and you can enjoy forest bathing while soaking up plenty of negative ions. It makes a pleasant morning moment of natural coolness before moving on to Kanotoiwa Rock.
Tips
You walk the path from the car park to the falls, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Boardwalks and rocky sections can be slippery after rain, so watch your footing. It is chilly around the falls even in summer, so something to put on is reassuring.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The cool morning hours are easiest for walking and recommended.
