Bamboo Museum (竹の資料館)

About this spot

A museum inside Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park where you can see displays on bamboo varieties, bamboo ecology, and the tools and crafts made from bamboo. Being indoors, it is a welcome place to catch your breath away from the sun. Many kinds of bamboo are planted in the park, so you can also enjoy going outside to look for the names you saw in the museum. The bamboo crafts are easy for children to grasp, and the baskets and tools bring moments of surprise at what can be made from bamboo. It is just the right stop for saving energy in a cool interior ahead of the afternoon's water play.

京都市洛西竹林公園竹林広場（バンブーフィールド）じゃぶじゃぶ池は、竹に囲まれた広場に現れる無料の水遊び場です。池は足首くらいの深さなので、歩き始めたばかりの小さな子でも保護者と一緒に入って遊べます。2026年は7/1(水)〜9/30(水)のうち土曜・日曜・祝日に通水し、7/18(土)〜8/31(月)は水曜を除く毎日通水するので、夏休み中は平日でも計画が立てられます。広場には傾斜地形を活かした滑り台などの遊具、芝生広場、東屋がそろっていて、水から上がったあとの居場所に困りません。竹林が日差しをやわらげてくれるため、夏でも体力の消耗が抑えられるのがこの水遊び場の魅力です。

Tips

開園は9:00〜17:00で入園は16:00まで、毎週水曜と年末年始は休園です。入園も水遊びも無料ですが、更衣室の案内は出ていないため、水着は下に着ていくかタオルポンチョを用意すると着替えがスムーズです。園内は起伏があるので、濡れた足でのサンダル移動は滑らないよう注意してください。東屋やベンチは荷物置き場としても使えるので、着いたら先に休憩場所を決めておくと動きやすくなります。

Tips

Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park is free to enter, open 9:00-17:00 (last entry 16:00), and closed every Wednesday and over the New Year period. The exhibition rooms are meant to be viewed quietly, so agreeing beforehand not to run makes for a calmer visit. The grounds are undulating, so in places a baby carrier is easier to move with than a stroller. You can walk through the grounds to reach the Splash Pond.
