Oyamazaki Town History Museum (大山崎町歴史資料館)
About this spot
A small museum summarising the story of Oyamazaki Town, where models, excavated finds and old maps let you learn about the Battle of Tennozan and the town's role as a post station on the Saigoku Kaido highway. It explains, together with the terrain, why this land on the border between Kyoto and Osaka became the stage of history again and again, in a way children can follow. The exhibition room is not too large, so you can see all of it while concentration lasts, which helps families. Being indoors, it is also a welcome place to escape the sun and catch your breath on a summer morning. Knowing the history here makes the view from halfway up Mt. Tennozan, your next stop, far more interesting.
Tips
Check the opening hours, closing days and admission fee in the official information beforehand to be sure. The exhibition room is a place for quiet viewing, so agreeing not to run in advance makes for a calmer visit. It is within walking distance of Hankyu Oyamazaki Station. Checking whether pushchairs can be left at the entrance will make moving around easier.
