This small museum, which compiles the history of Oyamazaki Town, lets you learn about the Battle of Mt. Tennozan and the town's role as a post station on the Saigoku Kaido (西国街道) through models, excavated artifacts, and old maps. The exhibits explain, together with the local terrain, why this land at the border of Kyoto and Osaka repeatedly became a stage of history, in a way that is easy for children to understand as well. The exhibition room is not too large, so families can go through it in a manageable amount of time while attention spans hold up. Being indoors also offers a welcome break from the sun on a summer morning. Learning the history here makes the view from the slopes of Mt. Tennozan, which you'll visit next, much more interesting.

Tips

It's best to check opening hours, closed days, and admission fees on the official website in advance. Viewing the exhibition room is basically meant to be done quietly, so agreeing in advance not to run around helps everyone stay calm. It's within walking distance of Hankyu Oyamazaki Station (阪急大山崎駅). Checking whether strollers can be left at the entrance will make it easier to move around.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. Spending the hottest part of the day indoors makes the afternoon easier.
