A botanical park adjoining Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park (Taiyogaoka), laid out to make use of the hillside terrain as it is. The greenhouse holds tropical plants and the outdoor beds change with the seasons, so there is always something to see even in summer. The grounds rise and fall, but the paths are well made, and the way the scenery changes as you go up and down the slopes feels like an adventure to children. Being able to move between the indoor greenhouse and the open air also helps you adjust how you spend your time to the strength of the sun. It is close enough to walk to and from Taiyogaoka, so it leads smoothly into the afternoon's water play.

Tips

Check the admission fee, opening hours and closing days in the official information beforehand. There are many slopes, so comfortable shoes are recommended. There are drinks vending machines, but planning to bring a packed lunch and spread it out at Taiyogaoka makes the day flow more smoothly. When the sun is strong, choosing the shaded paths rather than the greenhouse keeps you cooler.
