Kameoka Sports Park (亀岡運動公園)

Flow of the course

About this spot

The lawn plaza at Kameoka Sports Park is open grassland with no tall buildings around, and the breeze passes right through. There is no large dining hall in the park, so bringing a bento and eating on the grass is the way this park is meant to be enjoyed. Choose the shade of the trees to lay out your mat and you can sit there even in midsummer. Both the fountain and the play equipment are gathered in this plaza, so families appreciate being able to leave their bags in one spot all day. Resting properly after eating means you can enjoy the afternoon play equipment and water play right to the end.

Tips

It is safest to pick up bento and drinks around JR Kameoka Station before you head over. Rubbish must be taken home as a rule, so bring plenty of bags. Shade is limited to under the trees, so it is easier if you settle on a spot as soon as you arrive. Avoid getting into the water straight after eating; waiting 20-30 minutes before changing into swimwear is safer.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. You can wait out the peak heat before noon in the shade.
