The Hyogo Prefectural Archaeological Museum (兵庫県立考古博物館) is an archaeology museum built right next to the Onaka Site (大中遺跡). Beyond simply displaying excavated pottery and stone tools, it has a corner where you can actually pick up and try out tools, designed so kids can learn using their hands. From the observation tower you can view the entire Onaka Site, which is handy for getting a mental map before walking outside afterward. Since it's indoors and air-conditioned, you can spend the morning comfortably before the sunlight gets strong. It's just a few minutes by car to Nozoe-kita Park, making it a good first stop for the day.

Tips

Admission fees differ for adults and students, and high school students and younger are free (check the official website for closing days and the latest rates). The museum is spacious, so checking the location of the hands-on corner beforehand helps you use your time efficiently. You can tour it with a stroller, so it's reassuring even with small children.
