The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Archaeology (兵庫県立考古博物館) is an archaeology museum standing next to the Onaka Ruins (大中遺跡). Rather than only lining up excavated pottery and stone tools for viewing, it provides corners where you can actually pick tools up and try them, so it is built for children to learn by using their bodies. From the observation tower you can look out over the whole of the Onaka Ruins, which conveniently puts a map in your head before you walk outside afterwards. Being indoors and air-conditioned, it lets you spend the morning cool before the sun gets strong. Nozoekita Park (野添北公園) is only a few minutes away by car, making this a fitting first stop for the day.

野添北公園はだかの池は、加古郡播磨町の野添北公園にある、水遊びのできる人工の池です。公園そのものは1月1日(木)から12月31日(木)まで常時開放されていますが、水遊びが楽しめるのは主に夏のあいだで、開設期間や時間は公表されていません。そのため、出かける前に町の案内で状況を確かめるか、水が張られているかを確認してから向かうと確実です。同じ公園の中には複合遊具のある「ちびっこ広場」と芝生広場「はだしの森」が併設されているので、水に飽きたら遊具、体が冷えたら芝生と、遊び方を切り替えながら長い時間を過ごせます。料金は無料で、まわりは住宅地なので、日常の延長として気軽に立ち寄れるのがこの公園らしさです。

Tips

開設状況が公表されていないため、空振りを避けたいときは町へ問い合わせてから出かけてください。着替えの設備は限られるので、水着は服の下に着ていき、バスタオルを一枚多めに持っていくと困りません。ぬれた服を入れるビニール袋を人数分用意しておくと帰りが快適です。遊具は日ざしで熱くなることがあるので、触って確かめてから遊ばせましょう。日ざしの強い時間帯は木陰で休憩をはさみ、こまめに水分をとらせてください。

Tips

Admission is divided between adults and students, and is free for high school students and younger (check closed days and current fees on the official website). The building is large, so checking the location of the hands-on corners first helps you use your time well. You can get around with a stroller, so it is reassuring even with small children. Remembering where the shop and vending machines are means you will not run short of drinks when walking outside.
