Sumo Museum Kehaya-za

About this spot

This is a small museum on the theme of sumo, named after Taima no Kehaya, a wrestler handed down in local Taima lore. At the center of the hall sits a full-size sumo ring that you can actually step onto after taking off your shoes. Stamping the shiko or imitating a bout means you can enjoy it with your body rather than just looking, which is why it is popular with children. Around the ring are displays of ranking sheets, ceremonial aprons, and other sumo-related materials that adults find themselves absorbed in too. It is right by the approach to Taima-dera Temple (當麻寺), making it a convenient distance for the second stop of the morning.

「二上山ふるさと公園水辺のテラス」は、葛城市の公式案内(2026年7月17日更新)で修繕完了が知らされ、2026年7月18日(土曜日)より再開した無料の水遊び場です。人工の浅い流れなので水深が深くなる場所がなく、小さな子でも保護者と一緒に安心して入れます。同じ公園には7,000平方メートルの芝生広場が広がり、わんぱく広場には木製のコンビネーション遊具、丸太の吊り橋、ネット、すべり台がそろっているので、水と遊具を行き来しながら一日中遊べます。ログハウス調のおもちゃ館もあり、日差しが強い時間帯や急な雨のときの逃げ場になります。公園のシンボルである456段の石段を登れば展望台があり、体力が残っていれば夕方の眺めを目指すのもよい締めくくりです。終了時期は未発表で、夏季のみ水遊び場になります。

Tips

プールではなく水底が滑りやすいので、マリンシューズなど足元を守る靴をかならず用意してください。利用時間は9:00から17:00までで、毎週火曜・水曜が休園日です(水曜が祝日の場合は開園)。休園日と重ならないよう曜日を確かめてから出かけましょう。終了時期は未発表のため、9月以降に訪れる場合は葛城市の公式案内で当日の状況を確認してください。456段の石段は水遊びのあとだと足に響くので、登るなら体力と時間に余裕があるときだけにしておくと安全です。

Tips

Check the opening days and admission fee in advance. Socks are fine when stepping onto the ring, but bare feet are less slippery and safer. The interior is not very large, so you can see everything in 30 minutes to an hour. It is air-conditioned, making it a good rest stop after walking outdoors.
