Kikko Park (吉香公園)

About this spot

Just across Kintaikyo Bridge (錦帯橋) lies this park, laid out on the former residence grounds of the Kikkawa family (吉川家), lords of the old Iwakuni domain. Within a calm landscape of moats, stone walls and white plastered walls there is a large fountain and a wide lawn, and families are always to be found relaxing here. There is plenty of shade, so it suits spreading out a picnic sheet and eating a bento even at the height of summer. The air around the fountain is cool, making it just the right place to shake off the tiredness of the morning. You get a view that feels very much like Iwakuni, where the traces of the castle town and the openness of a park sit side by side.

岩国市の愛宕山ふくろう公園にある無料の水遊びスポット「愛宕山ふくろう公園水あそび場」です。噴水とミストで遊べる設備で、岩国市公式のガイドマップにも「水あそび場（Water Park）」として明記されています。すぐそばには、ふくろうをモチーフにした大型複合遊具と、だれもが一緒に遊べるインクルーシブ遊具広場があり、水と遊具を行き来しながら長く過ごせます。995平方メートルの屋根付き広場があるので、日差しが強い時間や急な雨のときも遊び場所を切り替えられるのが心強いところです。1.5ヘクタールの芝生広場と屋外ステージもあり、公園全体で一日を組み立てられます。

稼働期間・時間は市が公表していません。出発前に岩国市公園施設課(0827-29-5160)へ問い合わせて確認してください。2026年7月24日に園内でセアカゴケグモが確認され、市が素手で触れないよう注意を呼びかけています。遊ぶ前に「知らない虫は触らない」と子どもへ伝えておきましょう。日差しの強い時間帯は屋根付き広場で休憩をはさみ、水分補給をこまめに。着替えとタオルは人数分用意すると安心です。

Tips

Shaded spots fill up quickly around lunchtime, so choosing your place a little early is more comfortable. There are hours when no kiosk is open nearby, so preparing your bento and drinks in advance is the sure approach. The grounds are large enough for children to get lost, so agree on a meeting point first. From here it is about 10 minutes by car to Atagoyama Owl Park.
