Tendo City Shogi Museum (天童市将棋資料館)

About this spot

A museum that could only exist in Tendo, the town that has produced most of Japan's shogi pieces. Tools used to letter the pieces sit alongside pieces of every size and calligraphic style, revealing just how much work goes into a single one. A corner introducing shogi-like games from around the world means even children who do not know the rules can enjoy the shapes. The exhibition room is compact, which families will appreciate — you can see it all while attention lasts. Being indoors, it also lets you escape the morning heat.

道の駅天童温泉に隣接するわくわくランドの中にある無料の水遊び場が「わくわくランド噴水広場(道の駅天童温泉)」です。3種類の噴水が飛び出す仕組みで、水の出方が変わるたびに歓声が上がります。すぐそばに大型遊具と多目的広場があるので、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。オムツ替えスペースがあるため、赤ちゃん連れでも落ち着いて過ごせるのがありがたいところ。道の駅が同じ敷地にあるので、飲み物や食べ物、忘れ物の買い足しにも困りません。開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の稼働です。

天童市公式は稼働期間を明示せず「天候や点検等によって噴水を停止する場合があります」と記載しています。噴水の状況はもり〜な天童(023-651-2002)へ事前に確認してください。噴水は消毒されていますが飲料水ではないので、飲まないよう子どもに伝えておきましょう。料金は無料ですが、多目的広場の占用使用や付属設備の使用には使用料が発生します。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。
