Mount Maizuru, Tendo Park (舞鶴山天童公園)

About this spot

A park laid out on Mount Maizuru overlooking central Tendo, best known for the Human Shogi held here in spring. You can drive almost to the summit, so even families with small children can enjoy the view. From the open plaza the townscape of Tendo and the Ou mountain range spread out before you, and the breeze makes it feel cooler than the town below. Stone monuments and sculptures on shogi themes stand within the grounds, connecting back to the pieces you saw at the museum. Rather than a long hike, keep it to taking in the view and a gentle stroll so you have energy left for the afternoon.

道の駅天童温泉に隣接するわくわくランドの中にある無料の水遊び場が「わくわくランド噴水広場(道の駅天童温泉)」です。3種類の噴水が飛び出す仕組みで、水の出方が変わるたびに歓声が上がります。すぐそばに大型遊具と多目的広場があるので、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。オムツ替えスペースがあるため、赤ちゃん連れでも落ち着いて過ごせるのがありがたいところ。道の駅が同じ敷地にあるので、飲み物や食べ物、忘れ物の買い足しにも困りません。開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の稼働です。

Tips

天童市公式は稼働期間を明示せず「天候や点検等によって噴水を停止する場合があります」と記載しています。噴水の状況はもり〜な天童(023-651-2002)へ事前に確認してください。噴水は消毒されていますが飲料水ではないので、飲まないよう子どもに伝えておきましょう。料金は無料ですが、多目的広場の占用使用や付属設備の使用には使用料が発生します。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。

Tips

Shade is limited on the hilltop, so be sure to bring hats and drinks. The paths have slopes and steps, so in some places a baby carrier is easier than a stroller for small children. Bear in mind the distance from the car park to the plaza, and keep the visit short on hot days.
