Michi-no-Eki Tendo Onsen roadside station (道の駅 天童温泉)
About this spot
A roadside station on the same grounds as Wakuwaku Land, with a local-specialty shop and places to eat. Tendo is also fruit country, so in summer prefecture-grown cherries and peaches fill the shelves and simply choosing becomes a pleasure. The footbath is a charm unique to the hot-spring town of Tendo — warming your feet after the meal eases the morning's tiredness. The fountain plaza is right next door, so it is convenient to get changing clothes and drinks ready here before moving on. There is a diaper-changing area too, so it is reassuring with a baby.

道の駅天童温泉に隣接するわくわくランドの中にある無料の水遊び場が「わくわくランド 噴水広場(道の駅天童温泉)」です。3種類の噴水が飛び出す仕組みで、水の出方が変わるたびに歓声が上がります。すぐそばに大型遊具と多目的広場があるので、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。オムツ替えスペースがあるため、赤ちゃん連れでも落ち着いて過ごせるのがありがたいところ。道の駅が同じ敷地にあるので、飲み物や食べ物、忘れ物の買い足しにも困りません。開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の稼働です。

天童市公式は稼働期間を明示せず「天候や点検等によって噴水を停止する場合があります」と記載しています。噴水の状況はもり〜な天童(023-651-2002)へ事前に確認してください。噴水は消毒されていますが飲料水ではないので、飲まないよう子どもに伝えておきましょう。料金は無料ですが、多目的広場の占用使用や付属設備の使用には使用料が発生します。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。
Tips
Weekend lunchtimes get busy, so arriving before noon means a calmer meal. If you use the footbath, bring a small towel for drying off. You can also ask here directly about whether the fountains are running. A cooler bag is handy if you buy fresh produce.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. Eating first and stopping at the footbath afterwards is just the right balance
