Great Zelkova of Higashine

About this spot

A giant zelkova known as the symbol of Higashine City and designated a Special Natural Monument of Japan. It stands in an elementary school playground, and its thick trunk and widely spreading branches are far more impressive in person than in photographs. Standing at its base and looking up gives a sense of scale that makes children and adults alike gasp. Knowing that the tree has spent long centuries in this very spot changes how you see it again. It takes little time, making it just the right stop to switch into travel mode at the start of the day.

東根市の子どもの遊び場「ひがしねあそびあランド」にある無料の水遊び場が「ひがしねあそびあランド噴水ひろば」です。公式お知らせ(2026年7月29日)によると、7月25日(土)から8月31日(月)までは稼働時間が9:00〜17:00に延長されます。噴水は不規則に吹き出す仕組みで、どこから水が出るか読めないぶん、子どもは何度でも走って逃げて歓声をあげます。園内には大けやきをイメージした大型ネット遊具、泥スライダー、芝生を滑る斜面ゾーンがそろい、水に飽きても遊びが途切れません。プレイリーダーが常駐しているので、遊び方に迷ったときは声をかけてみましょう。飲食スペース・授乳スペース・オムツ替えスペースが整っていて、赤ちゃん連れでも動きやすい構成です。

Tips

雨の日や風の強い日は噴水の利用を停止する場合があるので、天気が不安定なときは出発前に確認してください。園の開園時間は4月1日から9月30日までが9:00〜18:00です。泥スライダーもある園なので、着替えとタオルは多めに用意すると安心。泥のついた服を入れるビニール袋も忘れずに。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。

Because it stands on school grounds, please view it quietly during class and school-event hours. Follow the on-site notices regarding whether visits are permitted and how far you may enter. The only shade is under the zelkova itself, so bring hats and drinks to be safe.
