In one corner of Yatsushiro Furusato Park (八代ふるさと公園) stand the restored Oka-Choshizuka Kofun (岡・銚子塚古墳) and Sakazukizuka Kofun (盃塚古墳), both prefecturally designated historic sites. The grass-covered mounds can be climbed on foot, and standing atop them offers a wide view of the Kofu Basin. At the park's Tenbo Furusato-kan (展望ふるさと館) exhibit hall, you can see displays about the region's history and the burial mounds, which helps make sense of the mounds you just saw outside. For children, the experience of 'climbing on top of a giant tomb' is unusual in itself and tends to stick in memory. There's also a maglev observation deck nearby, so visiting both lets you enjoy the view twice over.

Tips

Viewing is free. The mounds have slopes, so be careful when running down them. There's little shade, so drink water frequently. Check the facility's own information for the Tenbo Furusato-kan's opening days.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Walking here in the morning keeps the heat manageable.
