A roadside station in Zaikezuka, Minami-Alps City, whose direct-sales market is popular for seasonal fruit such as plums, grapes and peaches, true to this orchard region. In summer the freshly picked vegetables are abundant too, and simply shopping conveys how rich farming is here. There is a place to eat as well, handy for a meal before the water play. Buying drinks and salty snacks for the afternoon means no trouble later at the park. If you buy fresh produce, bring a cooler bag and keep it in the car until you head home.

Tips

Parking is free and the restrooms are well kept. The dining area gets crowded at lunchtime on weekends, so arriving early, around 11 a.m., is recommended. Popular fruit can sell out during the morning.
