The Stream at Matsubara Spring (Shigenobu River Green Space)
About this spot
The Stream at Matsubara Spring (Shigenobu River Green Space) is a free spot where you can play in the spring that wells up in the Shigenobu River green space in Morimatsu-cho, Matsuyama City, and in the stream that flows from it. Redeveloped through the Shigenobu River Nature Restoration Project, it is a quiet place of rest surrounded by trees. The stream is shallow at about 10 cm deep, so even small children can wade across on their own feet. Because it is spring water, the temperature stays low even in summer, cold enough that your toes chill if you stay in for a while. The opening period has not been announced, but it can be used all year round and it is listed in Matsuyama City's official water-play guidance. There is no showy play equipment, but being able to spend unhurried time with nothing but water and shade is exactly what makes this place good.
Tips
Stones and fallen leaves make the footing slippery, so always have children wear sandals that will not come off, or water shoes. This is not a facility with changing rooms or showers, so go in clothes that can get wet, or be ready to change in the car. Small children should wear swim nappies. Because it is a riverbed area, stay away after heavy rain or when the water is high, and check the weather forecast before setting out. Always take your rubbish home with you.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 20 minutes. The afternoon, when the shade spreads, is cool and lets even small children play for a long time
