Tsunashiki Tenman Shrine (綱敷天満神社)

This pine grove stretches along the coast in Sakurai, Imabari, and is designated a national place of scenic beauty. Inside stands Tsunashiki Tenman Shrine, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, and as you walk between the black pines along the approach, a breeze carrying the smell of the sea passes through. Even in summer the shade of the pines is cool, making it a perfect spot to spread a picnic sheet and eat a boxed lunch. Walk out to the beach and you can look across the calm Seto Inland Sea and its island silhouettes, and truly feel that Imabari is a town of the sea. Take a break in this breezy place before the afternoon water play.

今治市の案内で「水路は滑りやすいので注意」と明記されています。素足やビーチサンダルは避け、滑りにくいマリンシューズを履かせてください。更衣室やシャワーがある施設ではないため、濡れてもよい服で行くか、車内で着替えられる準備をしておくと安心です。小さな子は水遊び用おむつを着用しましょう。ゴーカートと自転車貸出は16:30で終了します。雷が鳴ったらすぐに切り上げ、ゴミは持ち帰ってください。

Tips

The pine grove is sandy, so easy-to-walk-in shoes make getting around simpler. There is plenty of shade, but the sea breeze makes sunburn hard to notice, so reapply sunscreen often. There are no lifeguards for water play at this beach, so on this day keep it to wetting your feet and save the water play for the traffic park in the afternoon, which is safer.
