About this spot

Located in Sori, Chita City, this pond is surrounded by a plum grove known as one of the largest in the Tokai region. The blossoms come in spring, but in summer the leaves grow thick and green, creating a quiet scene where the trees reflect on the pond's surface. Since it's right next to the park with the water play area, it's a convenient lunch spot that doesn't eat into travel time. Spreading a picnic sheet in the shade and eating slowly to the sound of birdsong makes for a good break ahead of the afternoon's water play. The pond was originally built to store water for agriculture, and it remains a place that has supported this region's water supply.

Tips

Please don't enter the pond, stay on the walking paths or in areas with benches. On days with strong sun, choose a shaded spot. Taking your trash home with you is standard practice. Going straight into the water right after eating puts strain on the body, so resting about 30 minutes before heading to the water play area makes for a good pace.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The shaded pond shore is a comfortable rest spot even at midday in midsummer
