Kamata Hachiman Shrine (蒲田八幡神社)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This shrine, cherished locally as the guardian of Kamata, is just steps from the bustle in front of the station, yet the atmosphere shifts once you step onto the grounds. Being surrounded by trees softens the sunlight, making it a pleasant spot to stop by on a summer afternoon. Its scale is just right for teaching children shrine-visiting manners, and doesn't take much time. In summer, the annual festival is held here, and the town becomes lively all at once. Working in a short stop here to touch the town's origins before water play adds a nice rhythm to the day.

Tips

The grounds are also a part of local daily life, so tell children not to run around before entering. A visit doesn't take long, so on hot days move along shaded routes without overexerting yourselves. It's reassuring to use the restroom at a public facility or the station beforehand. It gets crowded on festival days, so allow yourself plenty of time.

Best time to visit

About 35 minutes. The shaded grounds are comfortable even in the early afternoon.
