Musashi Province Ichinomiya Ono Shrine (武蔵國一之宮小野神社)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This old shrine in Ichinomiya, Tama City, has long been revered as the Ichinomiya (first shrine) of Musashi Province. Passing through the carved gate, you'll find a quiet precinct that hardly feels like it's right next to a residential area. This area near the Tama River has seen people passing through since ancient times, and the place name Ichinomiya itself comes from the shrine. The grounds aren't too large, so you can finish paying your respects in a short time even with small children. Ipponsugi Park (一本杉公園), where you'll play in the afternoon, also lies at the foot of the same Tama hills, letting you see how this land took shape between the river and the hills.

Tips

Please pay your respects quietly, and avoid eating, drinking, or speaking loudly on the grounds. Check the on-site signage for the hours of the amulet office and any event schedules. The surrounding area is residential, so if you're driving, be mindful of where you park. Mosquitoes are common in summer, so insect repellent will make your visit more comfortable.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. Beneath the trees it feels relatively cool even during the hours of strong sunlight.
