Kojima Jeans Street (児島ジーンズストリート)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Kojima is the birthplace of Japan's domestic denim industry. Kojima Jeans Street (児島ジーンズストリート), which runs through part of Ajino Shopping Street (味野商店街), is lined with shops from local denim brands, and the street's famous sight of jeans swaying in the wind overhead spreads out above you. Trying on a pair that shows off a craftsman's handiwork or choosing denim accessories and goods, walking through this indigo-dyed town is fully worthwhile even for shopping lovers. The thoroughness extends even to vending machines and benches done in denim patterns, so simply walking around taking photos is enjoyable. You are sure to be surprised at the depth of Kojima denim, which also draws attention from the world's fashion scene.

Tips

Regular closing days vary by shop, and many are closed on Wednesdays, so check in advance. There is free parking around the street. Street food such as denim-colored soft serve ice cream is also popular. If you want to take your time trying things on, allow yourself plenty of time.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. In the afternoon, all the shops are open, and the street's atmosphere is at its liveliest.
