Next stop: A reconstructed Taisho-era theater, touching the memory of Kinoe's port townAbout this spot
The tallest mountain on Osakikamijima, rising at the island's center. Standing at the observatory near the summit, you'll be struck by the 360-degree view of the Seto Inland Sea, with island silhouettes of every size layered one after another. Over 100 islands are said to be visible on a clear day, revealing the very shape of the Seto Inland Sea before your eyes. A road runs almost to the summit, making it relatively easy to reach this breathtaking view even with small children. Watching the tidal currents and passing ships, you can sense that this sea has long been a key transportation crossroads.
Tips
The road to the summit is narrow and steep, so drive carefully. Parking space is limited. The observatory can get windy, so watch that your hat doesn't blow away. Vending machines are scarce, so it's a good idea to bring drinks from the foot of the mountain.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 10 minutes. In the clear morning air, even distant islands are visible sharply.
