About this spot

This massive rock formation in Kamo, Yamaga City, looks like a brown rock tower jutting out from a green mountainside. It formed as ancient rock layers weathered over a very long time, leaving only the hardest parts standing, and standing close to it you'll be overwhelmed by its size. From the scenic viewpoint you can look out over the town and plains of Yamaga, making it a popular photo spot as well. Telling children that this rock took millions of years to form changes the way they see the landscape. It's worth taking in the memory of Yamaga's ancient land before the afternoon's water play.

Tips

You can drive close to the rock, but part of the road is narrow, so drive carefully. The path up the rock has uneven footing, so it's safer to admire it from the viewpoint rather than climbing. There is little shade, so be sure to bring a hat and something to drink. Insects are common in summer, so insect repellent will make the visit more comfortable.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The rock's shadows are especially striking in the morning light
