A museum situated on the shores of Uozu Port that preserves and displays the Uozu Buried Forest, a designated National Special Natural Monument. A massive cedar root stock from approximately 2,000 years ago, discovered during harbor construction, is displayed in a tank in its original discovered state, and viewing it through water offers a unique sense of scale and presence. Uozu's other famous attraction—mirages—can be easily understood through video theaters and exhibits explaining their mechanisms. The museum also has an in-house café, perfect for a morning break. This is an ideal spot to begin your day with heightened curiosity about the ocean's mysteries.

Tips

The museum's interior is mostly indoors and easy to explore with a stroller, and it's reliable even on rainy days. Umi no Eki Shinkirage (Sea Station Mirage) is just a short walk away, so you can leave your car parked and walk over. Check at the ticket counter regarding discount combination tickets with the aquarium and other facilities.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Early morning after opening is when the museum is less crowded and you can view exhibits leisurely.
