About this spot

Standing on the shore of Kumihama Bay (久美浜湾), Kumihama SANKAIKAN Roadside Station (道の駅くみはまSANKAIKAN) is a direct-sales market lined with locally caught seafood, fresh vegetables and souvenirs unique to Kyotango (京丹後). At the dining area inside you can taste dishes made with oysters raised in Kumihama Bay and other local ingredients, perfect for a solid meal before sea bathing. Because you can shop and eat at the same time, it is just the right rest spot for switching from morning sightseeing to afternoon swimming. Cold drinks and ice cream are also available, handy for stocking up against the heat.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Kabutoyama Park (兜山公園), and about 10 minutes by car to Shotenkyo and Kadonohama Beach (小天橋・葛野浜海水浴場) as well. It gets crowded at lunchtime during the summer holidays, so entering early in the noon hour is recommended. Drinks and frozen treats can be taken to the beach and enjoyed there.
