2026 Kimiidera Sennichi Mairi: A Full One-Day Course
Centered on the Sennichi Mairi (千日詣) held at Kimiidera Temple (紀三井寺), one of the sacred sites of the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage (西国三十三所), from 8:00pm on August 9, 2026, this one-day course lets you fully enjoy Wakayama's seaside scenery. By day, climb Kimiidera's 231 stone steps for a sweeping view of Wakaura Bay, then walk to Wakaura Tenmangu Shrine (和歌浦天満宮), dedicated to the three gods of waka poetry, and around Furo-bashi Bridge (不老橋), a scenic spot in Wakaura. In the evening, have a leisurely dinner near Wakaura Fishing Port (和歌浦漁港), then head back to Kimiidera as the sun sets. On this Sennichi Mairi night, when a visit is said to earn the merit of a thousand days of worship, the grounds bustle with many worshippers. Experiencing both the daytime and nighttime faces of Kimiidera in a single day makes this a course unique to Wakayama.
