Renowned as the 'Temple of Bamboo,' this ancient Rinzai Zen temple is notable for its garden of approximately 2,000 Moso bamboo stalks reaching toward the sky. When dappled sunlight filters through the canopy, the bamboo garden is breathtakingly beautiful. At the tea room Kyukkoan (休耕庵) within the garden's interior, you can savor matcha while gazing upon the bamboo grove. The moment, with only the rustling of bamboo leaves resonating in the stillness away from the town's noise, is truly special.
Tips
It is recommended to select the matcha ticket option at the admission desk. The bamboo garden features stone paths that are easy to walk, but exercise caution as they can be slippery after rain. From Kamakura Station, the bus to Jomyoji (浄明寺) is most convenient.
