About this spot
A shrine dedicated to Prince Morinaga, established by Emperor Meiji. It is known for the 'luck-breaking stone' ritual, where bad fortune is transferred to an unglazed cup and thrown against stone, as well as the famous lion-head protective charm (獅子頭守) believed to ward off misfortune by substitution. The grounds, marked by distinctive red and white torii gates, maintain a serene atmosphere removed from tourist crowds. It is within walking distance of Hokokuji Temple and can be visited together.
Tips
The luck-breaking stone ritual is accessible at around 100 yen per cup and is popular for the refreshing sensation of shattering it. From Hokokuji Temple, it is approximately a 10-minute leisurely walk through residential streets along a gentle slope.
