About this spot
Nagoya's premier shrine, with approximately 1,900 years of history, enshrining the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the three sacred treasures. Enveloped in a grove so deep you'd never imagine being in the middle of the city, simply walking the shrine path will make you feel the air change. There are plenty of highlights to see, including the ancient camphor tree said to have been planted by Kobo Daishi and the Nobunaga Wall said to have been donated by Oda Nobunaga. The temple grounds have a restaurant serving the local specialty of kishimen noodles, but on this day, keep it light in preparation for the hitsumabushi lunch.
Tips
The temple grounds are primarily covered with gravel, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Around 9 a.m., there are fewer visitors and you can fully immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of the grove. Excellent access from Meitetsu Jingu-mae Station and Subway Jingu-nishi Station. The Treasure Museum requires a separate admission fee.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. Early morning visits are less crowded, and the grove air is at its freshest.
