Meet the Actual First-Generation 0-Series Shinkansen and DF50-Type Locomotive

A railway-themed facility adjacent to JR Iyo-Saijo Station. At the Shikoku Railway Culture Museum's North Building, the charming first-generation 0-series Shinkansen with its rounded nose and the number-one DF50-type diesel locomotive from the national railway era greet you side by side. At the South Building across the tracks, you'll find the C57-type steam locomotive, the Freegage Train test vehicle, and a large diorama recreating Shikoku's railway scenery. The vehicles aren't just viewable up close—some exhibits allow you to enter the driver's cabin for commemorative photos with a conductor's feel. The adjacent Oguro Shinji Memorial Museum introduces the life of Shinji Oguro, called "the father of the Shinkansen," who devoted himself to realizing the Tokaido Shinkansen as former president of the national railway. A must-visit spot for vehicle enthusiasts to meet illustrious figures and legendary trains connected to Saijo.
Tips
The North Building, South Building, and Oguro Shinji Memorial Museum can all be viewed with a single admission. Closed days are designated, so check opening dates beforehand. Adjacent to Iyo-Saijo Station with parking available, it's easily accessible by car. Timing your visit with the diorama's operation schedule increases satisfaction.
