Evening Scenery at a Flower-Covered Plateau Overlooking the Isahaya Plain and Ariake Sea
About this spot
A plateau at approximately 350 meters elevation on the slopes of Gokahara Peak in the northern part of Isahaya City. Below lies the Isahaya Plain with its reclaimed land, and beyond that the glistening Ariake Sea. On clear days, you can even see the Unzen Mountains in the distance—a grand panorama. In spring, the hillside is painted with rape blossoms and cherry blossoms; in autumn, cosmos flowers cover the slopes, offering a completely different appearance with each season. The plateau is home to the Cosmos Flower Space Museum (Cosmos Hana Uchukan), where you can also observe the night sky. The moment of gazing down at the plain and sea bathed in soft evening light is a fitting grand finale to a full day of flower viewing.
Tips
The road up to the plateau features many curves, so drive carefully. The elevation is high and evening winds can feel chilly, so a light jacket is recommended. Parking may get crowded on weekends during rape blossom and cosmos blooming seasons. It's best to descend before dark.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 55 minutes. The angled light of evening beautifully illuminates the Isahaya Plain and Ariake Sea at their finest.
