An ancient Rinzai Zen temple located in the center of Masuda City, with a garden reportedly created by Sesshu, a Zen ink painter of the Muromachi period, designated as a National Scenic Beauty. Arranged with stone and moss around a pond, the karesansui (dry landscape) garden remains full of tranquility even in summer's dappled sunlight and makes one forget urban hustle and bustle. Sesshu spent his final years in this Masuda area, and several historic sites related to Sesshu remain throughout the city. As a family, gaze upon the beautiful composition embedded in this garden and begin today's journey with a calm spirit. The main hall remains on the grounds, allowing you to slowly feel the weight of history.

2026年8月22日(土)20時から40分間、益田市の高津川河口河川敷を会場に開催される花火大会です。全国屈指の清流として知られる高津川の河口上空に花火が打ち上がり、川面に映る光が揺れる光景は川辺ならではの美しさです。山陰の夜空に開く大輪の花火と川を渡る夜風、遠くに日本海を感じる益田らしいロケーションが、この花火大会の魅力です。フィナーレに向けて連続して打ち上がる花火が夜空を染める瞬間は、清流の町・益田の夏を締めくくるにふさわしいクライマックスです。地域に根ざした花火大会の温かな雰囲気も、家族連れには心に残る体験になります。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は益田市や大会主催者の公式発表で事前に確認してください。終了後は会場周辺の道路や駐車場が混雑します。フィナーレ後は河川敷でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから、時間差で移動するのがおすすめです。足元が暗い場所があるので、ライトやスマホのライト機能を活用して安全に帰りましょう。

Tips

About 5 minutes by car or 15 minutes on foot from JR Masuda Station. Admission is approximately 300 yen for adults (may vary; confirm on-site). The grounds have stone paving and gravel, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Manpukuji Temple (万福寺), also associated with Sesshu, is nearby and can be visited together.
