Saijo City is known as the "City of Water" where subterranean water stored in the granite layers of the Ishizuchisan mountain range naturally springs up in various places throughout the city as "uchimuki" (打抜き). It has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Waters, and the clear water that endlessly springs up from between stone walls and ground seems like a mysterious sight to first-time visitors. Scattered from around the City Hall area to the area around Saijo Station, you can visit several uchimuki while taking a walk through town. Even during hot summer days, the water temperature is low, and touching it provides a refreshing coolness that feels pleasant. It's a unique natural phenomenon you must experience when visiting Saijo, found nowhere else in Japan.

2026年7月25日(土)20時から21時まで、壬生川駅正面線(旭新開)を会場に開催されるにゅうがわ花火大会です。約6,000発の花火が西条の夜空を1時間にわたって彩り、地元の夏を代表する一大イベントとして多くの人に親しまれています。周囲が開けた会場は視界が広く、頭上いっぱいに広がる花火をダイナミックに楽しめます。スターマインや大玉の尺玉など多彩な演目が続き、フィナーレの連続打ち上げは音と光が重なり合う圧巻の迫力。家族みんなで顔を上げて見守る1時間は、夏の西条の忘れられない思い出になるはずです。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は西条市や大会主催者の公式発表を当日早めに確認してください。終了後は壬生川駅が大変混み合うため、花火終了後しばらく会場周辺で余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめ。帰りの予讃線の時刻は事前にチェックを。足元が暗い場所もあるので、スマートフォンのライトを活用して安全に帰りましょう。

Tips

From Mioigawa Station, take the JR one station toward Saijo Station (approximately 4 minutes) or about 10 minutes by car. The area around Saijo City Hall is the easiest starting point to explore. Some uchimuki are drinkable, but this varies by location, so check the information displays on-site. It's a spot you can casually visit while quenching your thirst and cooling off.
