This ancient shrine, long cherished by locals as Saijo's guardian shrine, sits within a sacred forest along the Kamo River. Step onto the approach path and towering, age-old trees canopy the sky, softening the summer sun and wrapping you in an otherworldly stillness. Known as the centerpiece of the October Saijo Festival, when many danjiri floats parade through town, it's an essential part of Saijo's history and culture. The grounds aren't too large, making it suitable for a stroll with small children too. Enjoy a moment of coolness at this quiet shrine before tonight's lively fireworks festival.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from Nyugawa Station, or about a 20-minute walk from Saijo Station. Visiting is free. Since it borders the Kamo River, you can combine a riverside walk with your shrine visit. The ground is stone-paved and gravel, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
