Visit One of Japan's Three Major Shrines and Stroll Through the Lush Shrine Grounds Lined with Giant Camphor Trees

About this spot

An ancient shrine founded over 1,900 years ago, enshrining the "Kusanagi Sword," one of the three imperial regalia. The approximately 60,000-tsubo grounds are lined with giant Camphor trees exceeding 1,000 years in age, evoking a sense of tranquility and dignity seemingly removed from Nagoya city. Atsuta Shrine Park, where tonight's fireworks will be launched, is adjacent to the shrine grounds—experiencing the atmosphere during the day creates a narrative continuity for your full day. Historic landmarks like "Nobunaga's Wall," said to have been the site of his victory prayer before the Battle of Okehazama, and the Treasure Museum housing national treasures and important cultural properties are also highlights. Atsuta Festival is the Atsuta Shrine's largest festival, and the grounds are enveloped in unprecedented crowds each year.

Tips

Tips

Walk is short from Jingu-mae Station (Meitetsu), approximately 7 minutes walk from JR Atsuta Station, approximately 3 minutes walk from Jingu-West Station (Subway). Shrine visit and grounds exploration are free. The Treasure Museum is paid admission (¥500 for adults). On the fireworks festival day, shrine visitors and fireworks spectators overlap from evening onward, so visiting early afternoon is the best strategy.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. The verdant greenery of early summer is beautiful, and afternoon light illuminates the Camphor trees of the shrine grounds beautifully.
