Next stop: Watch approximately 6,000 fireworks reflected on the Shimanto River from the riverbedAbout this spot
The Shimanto River riverbed spreading at the base of the Red Iron Bridge (Watarikawa Bridge), a symbol of Shimanto City, becomes the festival square for the Shimanto Citizen Festival. From early evening, food stalls line the area, and local people and tourists mix together, creating a festive atmosphere. Once you spread out a leisure sheet to secure your viewing spot, gather dinner from the food stalls and relax in the cool breeze from the river. As the sun lowers, the water surface of the Shimanto River becomes tinted orange, eventually changing to indigo as dusk deepens—a landscape that already hints at the climax of the day before the fireworks even begin. The breeze crossing the water surface remains pleasantly cool even at night, allowing you to fully enjoy the comfortable evening on the summer riverbed.
Tips
On the fireworks festival day, surrounding roads and parking lots become congested. Use public transportation or arrive early to secure parking. Temporary toilets are installed at the venue, but expect lines, so use them early. Insect repellent spray is essential. It's recommended to purchase food before the food stall crowd reaches its peak.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours 20 minutes required. The Shimanto River's sunset view before and after sunset is worth seeing.
