Standing right by Shibukawa Coast (渋川海岸), this aquarium's appeal lies in its old-fashioned, warm atmosphere. Inside, a variety of sea creatures live, centered on fish of the Seto Inland Sea, and in the outdoor tanks you can watch sea turtles and seals swimming leisurely up close. An exhibition hall displaying shells and ship models is also attached, making it unique in that you can learn about maritime culture as well as sea creatures. Because it is on a compact scale, even small children can tour it without getting tired, and the closeness to the creatures is one of its pleasures.
Tips
It is just a short walk from Shibukawa Coast (渋川海岸), making the location easy to pair with a beach visit. Admission is reasonably priced and the interior is compact, making it just the right size for a walk-through after lunch. Take sun protection when viewing the outdoor tanks.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. On afternoons outside the swimming season, the interior is uncrowded, letting you observe leisurely in front of the tanks.
