About this spot

These two red brick warehouses were built in the late Meiji period as oil storage facilities and are now registered as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, serving as a symbol of Tsuruga Port. The Diorama Hall features a large-scale model recreating the bustling streetscape of Tsuruga during its prosperous railway and harbor era, complete with moving model trains that captivate visitors of all ages. The adjacent Restaurant Hall houses cafes and dining options, perfect for a post-lunch break. The historic red brick exterior, draped with ivy, is incredibly photogenic.

Tips

The Diorama Hall is indoors, making it safe to visit on rainy days. Visiting the exterior and grounds is free; only the Diorama Hall charges admission. Kanagasaki Green Space, where the Museum is located, is within walking distance, so you can leave your car parked and explore the entire harbor area on foot.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Early afternoon light is soft and ideal for photographing the red brick exterior.
