About this spot

This museum, located within Takehara's townscape preservation district, introduces the history and folklore of Takehara, which flourished through the salt production and sake brewing industries. Through exhibits of period salt-making tools and everyday items, you can get a close-up sense of the town's Edo-period prosperity. Visiting here after walking the white-walled townscape deepens the meaning of the buildings and lattice windows you've seen. Though a small facility, it's an ideal spot to round off your town walk with a deeper understanding of Takehara as a place.

Tips

Since it's located within the preservation district, you can visit it as part of your townscape stroll. Admission is around 200 yen for adults (subject to change, so check on-site). The interior is cool, making it a handy resting spot in summer too. You can tour it compactly in about 30-40 minutes.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. It fits smoothly into the latter half of your townscape stroll.
