About this spot

A historic site that reconstructs the checkpoint set up during the Edo period as a key point along the Tokaido. It includes exhibits recreating the daily life of travelers who passed through the checkpoint, letting you walk through a scene straight out of a history textbook. Its impressive location on the shore of Lake Ashi also offers a striking view where the lake meets the historic buildings.

Tips

Within walking distance of Onshi-Hakone Park. Admission is a few hundred yen for adults. Since much of the visit is outdoors, take breaks in the shade during summer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Relatively uncrowded and easy to explore slowly in the early afternoon.
