About this spot

A historic hot-spring town spreading along the banks of the Amorigawa (天降川), said to have been loved by Saigo Takamori (西郷隆盛). This is also the area the festival takes its name from, and you can enjoy strolling its charming hot-spring-town streets. There's also a footbath in town you can easily stop by, perfect for catching your breath partway through your trip. It's a spot where you can feel the atmosphere of the festival's setting firsthand, even in the daytime.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Kagoshima Jingu. Bringing a towel is convenient if you use the footbath. Sunlight is strong in summer, so remember to stay hydrated.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The calmer afternoon hours are good for a leisurely stroll.
