Next stop: A medieval castle ruin with remaining earthworks and moatsAbout this spot
This is the house where Yataro Iwasaki (岩崎弥太郎), known as the founder of the Mitsubishi conglomerate, was born and raised. The modest thatched-roof building offers a glimpse into the humble background from which he rose to become one of Japan's leading businessmen. A statue of Yataro also stands on the grounds, making this a place to connect with the origins of a great figure Aki City is proud of.
Tips
It's within walking distance of Doikakuchu. The interior of the building may have limited areas open to visitors, so the visit mainly focuses on the exterior and grounds. There is little shade in summer, so a hat is a good idea.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. Early afternoon tends to be less crowded, making it easier to visit.
