These are the ruins of the castle that served as the residence of the Aki clan since the Kamakura period, with parts of the earthworks and moat still remaining. Although there is no main keep or turret, the greenery-covered ruins have a quiet atmosphere, making it a good place to walk while imagining the castle's former appearance. Aki Shrine (安芸神社) also stands within the grounds, so you can enjoy a visit to the shrine along with your historical stroll.
Tips
Some sections have unpaved dirt paths, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There can be many insects in summer, so insect repellent is a good idea.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. Afternoon, when the shade of the trees feels pleasant, is recommended.
