Flow of the course

About this spot

An ancient shrine perched on a hill overlooking Katsuura and the sea, dedicated to Amatomi no Mikoto, the founder of Boso. The stone steps of the approach are famous for being decorated with countless dolls during the annual Katsuura Big Doll Festival. Climbing to the top rewards you with a sweeping panoramic view of Katsuura's port town and the Pacific Ocean. Its walkability from the morning market is also appealing.

Tips

The stone steps have about 60 steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. After your visit, enjoy the local specialty Katsuura Tantanmen for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Best time to visit

Allow 30-45 minutes. Early morning visits are peaceful with fewer people.
