Asahikawa Heiwa-dori Shopping Park (旭川平和通買物公園)

About this spot

A street running about one kilometer north from Asahikawa Station, and the first in Japan to become a permanent pedestrian street. Cars do not come in, so children can walk right down the middle of the road while holding your hand — a rare experience in a city. Sculptures are placed here and there along the street, and with benches and drinking fountains in place, time passes simply by walking with no particular destination. The distance is just right for working off a full stomach after ramen. Buying extra drinks and snacks here in preparation for the evening water play is reassuring.

共栄公園徒渉池は、旭川市の共栄公園に夏のあいだだけ開かれる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は6月1日(月)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜17:00に開放され、利用は無料です。水深が浅いので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って歩き回れるのが安心なところ。プールのように入れ替えや順番待ちがなく、遊びたいときに入って疲れたら木陰で休むという、子どものリズムに合わせた過ごし方ができます。近所の子どもたちが集まる場所なので、その日はじめて会った子と一緒に遊びだすのも公園の徒渉池ならではの時間です。北海道の夏は日が傾くと急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとの体温調節だけ気にかけてあげてください。

Tips

開放は10:00〜17:00です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになることがあるため、出発前に旭川市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室は用意されていない前提で、水着は下に着ていくか、ラップタオルなどで着替えられる準備をしておくと安心です。日陰が限られるのでレジャーシートと帽子があると休憩が楽になります。上がったあとに羽織れる薄手の一枚は、北海道の夏でも必ず持っていきましょう。

Tips

Shade is limited, so put on a hat before you start walking. The layout has few steps, making it easy to move with a stroller. Drinks and frozen treats can be bought at shops along the street. Walking too far leaves no energy for the afternoon, so walking one way only and returning to the car, rather than doing a round trip, is the easier way to plan it.
