This is a shrine in Iai-cho, Matsuyama City, long cherished by residents under the affectionate name Tsubaki-san. It is known for the winter Tsubaki Festival, but in summer the shade of the groves in the precincts is cool, and walking here in the morning feels very pleasant. The approach is wide and easy to walk, and the scale suits a leisurely visit even with small children. Purifying your hands at the water basin and praying quietly is a good experience for children too. Setting aside a calm stretch of time before water play helps their energy last through the afternoon.

Tips

There are many gravel paths in the precincts, so there are moments when a baby carrier is easier to manage than a stroller. The car park is free to use, but it gets crowded on festival days, so allow plenty of time. Vending machines are limited, so bringing your own drinks is reassuring.
