Next stop: Observe freshwater fish from the Toyokawa River at the free aquarium and enjoy animal interaction and grass field play for a relaxing breakAbout this spot
A shopping street that continues before the Toyokawa Inari temple gate, lined with retro storefronts that retain the character of the Taisho and Showa eras. The representative local gourmet is 'Toyokawa inari sushi'—sweetly-seasoned abura-age (fried tofu) wrapped rice. Each shop has its own unique flavoring and ingredients, ranging from traditional to creative variations, and the local way to enjoy this town is to buy small portions and taste-compare from different shops. While peeking into souvenir shops and stores selling old-fashioned confections, a three-generation group can have a lively time walking together—lunch here alone will be thoroughly satisfying.
Tips
Popular items may sell out, so it's safer to start before midday. Weekend lunch hours can get crowded, so staggering your food walk to off-peak times ensures smoother progress. Bring wet wipes as your hands will get sticky. For souvenirs, placing inari sushi in a cooler bag ensures safe transport home.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours needed. Late morning through early afternoon is peak for shop activity and product selection.
