Shinjuku Central Park (新宿中央公園)

About this spot

The largest ward park in Shinjuku, sitting right beside the skyscraper district of Nishi-Shinjuku. Inside there are the Water Plaza and the Children's Plaza, with sections where you can touch the water and with play equipment, so you can let children play both before and after eating. There is also a broad artificial waterfall known as Niagara Falls, and the air around it stays cool thanks to the sound of the water. Lawn and groves are nicely balanced, so you can lay a picnic sheet in the shade and eat your bento in peace. Honmachi Sakura Park is within walking distance.

本町さくら公園親水施設（水遊び場）は、渋谷区の本町さくら公園にある無料の水遊び場です。2026年の開設期間は7/1(水)から9/24(木)まで、時間は9:00〜17:00で、夕方まで開いているので午前を別の場所で過ごしてからでも十分に遊べます。水深は浅く造られているため、歩きはじめの小さな子どもでも自分の足で歩き回れます。西新宿の高層ビル街から近い立地でありながら、まわりは落ち着いた住宅街で、地域の家族連れが日常的に使う遊び場になっています。料金は無料なので、天気を見て思い立った日に出かけられるのも魅力です。

Tips

清掃日にあたる毎週水曜日の午後は利用できません。午後の水遊びを予定している日が水曜にあたる場合は日程を見直すか、渋谷区の公式ページで状況を確認してください。気象状況によって開設が変更になることもあります。飲食物の持込とペットの入水はできません。着替えの場所は限られるため、水着を下に着ていくと現地での支度が短く済みます。

Tips

It is smoother to buy your bento around Shinjuku Station (新宿駅) or Hatsudai Station (初台駅) before you head over. The ground at the Water Plaza can be wet, so remind children not to run. Rubbish is taken home as a rule, so prepare a bag. Avoid entering the water straight after eating; resting for 20 to 30 minutes before going to change is reassuring.
