Though a small unmanned station on the JR Yosan Line, this scenic spot is nationally famous as "Japan's closest railway station to the sea." Standing on the platform, your view is unobstructed—only Iyo-nada Bay and sky stretch endlessly before you. Featured multiple times on "Blue 18" train pass posters and serving as a location for numerous films and dramas, the solitary bench on the platform is an iconic photo spot. During the quiet hours when no trains arrive, sitting together on the bench listening to the waves creates a sense of time moving gently. The experience of watching the sea and sky gradually change color as afternoon transitions to evening is a luxury unique to this station.
Tips
The parking area in front of the station is limited to just a few spaces and can get crowded on weekends, so arrive with time to spare. The station is in active use, so be alert to approaching trains and never step onto the tracks. Checking the train schedule allows you to capture photos of trains against the seascape.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours. The late afternoon when light gradually angles lower and the sea begins to shimmer is most beautiful.
