About this spot

A small unmanned station on the JR Yosan Line, yet known nationwide as a spectacular viewpoint called the station closest to the sea. Standing on the platform, nothing blocks your view, and only the sea and sky of the Iyo Sea stretch out endlessly. It has been featured repeatedly on posters for the Seishun 18 Kippu rail pass and has served as a filming location for numerous movies and dramas. The lone bench on the platform is a classic spot for photos. During the quiet stretches between trains, sitting side by side while listening to the waves lets you feel time pass slowly. Watching from the platform as the sea and sky gradually change color from afternoon into evening is a luxury unique to this station.

Tips

Parking in front of the station is limited to just a few spaces and gets crowded on weekends, so allow plenty of time. The platform belongs to an active station, so watch for approaching trains and never step onto the tracks. Checking the train schedule in advance lets you aim for a photo of the moment when the sea and a train appear together.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. It's most beautiful as the afternoon light gradually slants and the sea begins to sparkle.
