A major temple of the Shingon Ritsu sect located on the mountainside of Mount Ikoma, formally named "Ikoma Sanjo Hozan-ji." Known as "Ikoma's Shoten-san," this renowned temple has long been revered for bringing commercial success and good relationships. A steady stream of worshippers attends the temple. Just a short walk from the Hozan-ji cable car station, as you ascend the stone-paved approach, you'll be greeted by an impressive guardian gate and main hall. The grounds utilize the mountain's slope with terraced structures, creating a unique atmosphere where moss-covered stone steps and massive rock formations merge with the sanctuary buildings. Walking through the quiet grounds in early evening allows you to feel the natural beauty and history of Mount Ikoma in a way that provides refreshing contrast to the lively amusement park.

From the cable car's Sanjo Line, transfer to the Hozan-ji Line and descend at Hozan-ji Station, then walk about 5 minutes. Worship is free. There are many stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Taking a moment at the tea shop within the temple grounds before heading down the mountain will allow you to make the evening transfer with ease. Descend to Ikoma Station by cable car for the next leg to the station area.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. The grounds before evening have fewer visitors, allowing for a peaceful experience.
