A shrine dedicated to the goddess of the sea, counted among Japan's three greatest Benzaiten shrines. Passing through the vermillion torii gate, you'll find the Nakamise-dori shopping street lined with souvenir shops, with three shrine buildings—Hetsutsu-miya, Chuutsu-miya, and Okuatsu-miya—scattered along the island's elevation. Known for blessings related to the arts and finances, it's perfect for a family visit praying for healthy, peaceful days.

Tips

With many stone steps, a baby carrier is recommended for small children. Using the paid outdoor escalator 'Escar' makes the climb much easier.

Best time to visit

Plan for just over 1 hour; 9am is when the Nakamise-dori shopping street is least crowded and easiest to walk through
